Today, King Felipe and Queen Letizia presided over the ceremony of the Princess of Asturias Awards 2018, that was held at the Campoamor Theater in Oviedo. The royal couple was also accompanied by Felipe’s mother Queen Sofia.
This year’s award winners include Martin Scorsese, Alma Guillermoprieto, Amref Health Africa, Reinhold Messner and Krzysztof Wielicki, Fred Vargas, Michael J Sandel, Svante Pääbo and Sylvia A. Earle.
King Felipe has been Honorary President of the Foundation since its establishment in 1980. After his proclamation as King of Spain on June 19, 2014, His daughter and the heir of the Spanish throne, the Princess of Asturias, Leonor, holds the Presidency of this institution.

Coming to the sartorial details of the day, Every year when I look at Queen’s appearance at this ceremony, I always say this is her best look ever, and every year I have to repeat this statement.
Last year if she wowed us with a monochrome Disney princess look, this year she was the true Reina of style. Once again trusting her head-designer, she wore a stunning custom-made piece from Spanish label Felipe Varela.
The multicolour dress is a real piece of work. The dress features different shades of blue, cerulean, slate and nude featuring brocade patchwork and hand-embroidered thread, glass and motif work.
The midi-length dress features a boat neckline with a fit-and-flare silhouette. A closer look at the intricate embroidery detailing of the dress.
Letizia paired the dress with black semi-transparent and leather peep-toe platform pumps from Magrit and carried a matching black suede clutch.
Keeping the accessories to a minimum, Letizia chose diamond flower-shaped earrings that once belonged to Queen Victoria Eugenia.
Letizia’s hairstyle caused somewhat of mixed feeling. The retro look of side parting with back gathering gave the earrings a moment to shine while not hindering the dress neckline.
Tomorrow King and Queen will preside over the XXIX Exemplary Town of Asturias Awards and visit the winning town. I will leave you with a glimpse of Queen at previous year’s look at this award ceremony.
