Today, Queen Letizia of Spain presided over the commemoration act of “World Day of Rare Diseases” that is being celebrated under the slogan “Uniting social and health care” in 2019 at the Duke of Pastrana Complex in Madrid.

Upon arrival, Queen was received by the Minister of Health, Consumption and Social Welfare, the president of the Spanish Federation of Rare Diseases and the third vice president of the general council of ONCE.

The Spanish Federation of Rare Diseases, which is made up of more than 200 associations, works in an integral way with families with rare diseases through projects and services aimed at improving their quality of life in the short, medium and long term, as well as promote a society in which people with a rare disease have the same opportunities in life as the rest, regardless of the rarity of their disease. It is known as “rare diseases” to the set of pathologies whose prevalence is less than five cases per 10,000 people.
