
King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain attended the funeral of Ex-Deputy Prime Minister Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba on Friday in Madrid.

Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba, born on July 28, 1951, in Solares (Cantabria), did Doctorate in Chemical Sciences. He served as Minister of Education and Science (1992-1993), and of the Presidency and Relations with the Cortes (1993-1996), Spokesman of the Socialist Parliamentary Group (2004-2006). He was the Vice President of the Government and Spokesperson (2011-2011) and Minister of the Interior (2006-2011). In 2012 he was elected general secretary of the PSOE, a position he held until 2014 when he withdrew from political life, started at the University of Madrid as a Professor in Chemical Sciences.
