Before kicking start the official summer break at the Balearic Island, Queen Letizia finished her last busy day in Madrid in a chic and elegant style. Earlier in the day, Letizia inaugurated a general hall “María Moliner” and a press room called “Larra” at the National Library of Spain in Madrid.

During the visit, Queen Letizia visited a workshop being held at the library. In this workshop, the experts showed the process carried out with copies from the 17th to the 20th centuries and the main sewing, finishing and decoration techniques.

Then Letizia went to the restoration facilities where manuscripts of Spanish authors of the 17th century, the autograph manuscripts of the National Episodes of Benito Pérez Galdós or the book of hours of Carlos V are being treated.

The tour continued through the department of Fine Arts until arriving at Sala Cervantes, where Letizia saw some of the representative materials of the BNE’s collections. One of the jewels that have attracted the most attention has been the Madrid I Codex of Leonardo da Vinci, a true treatise on static and mechanics, with detailed schematics of mechanisms and contraptions and their corresponding explanations.

 In addition, the manuscript Crucifixión by Federico García Lorca, a copy of the first edition of Don Quixote, a portulano Atlas by Joan Martines, an engraving by Goya and an Aristón disc by Federico Chueca were shown.

The next stage was the press room and magazines that, at the request of the Press Association of Madrid, has been renamed Larra. Later in the day, Letizia joined King Felipe at the Royal Palace of Zarzuela to welcome the National Women’s and Water Polo National Teams participating in the Gwangju World Championship 2019.
