During the visit, Queen Letizia visited a workshop being held at the library. In this workshop, the experts showed the process carried out with copies from the 17th to the 20th centuries and the main sewing, finishing and decoration techniques.
Then Letizia went to the restoration facilities where manuscripts of Spanish authors of the 17th century, the autograph manuscripts of the National Episodes of Benito Pérez Galdós or the book of hours of Carlos V are being treated.

The tour continued through the department of Fine Arts until arriving at Sala Cervantes, where Letizia saw some of the representative materials of the BNE’s collections. One of the jewels that have attracted the most attention has been the Madrid I Codex of Leonardo da Vinci, a true treatise on static and mechanics, with detailed schematics of mechanisms and contraptions and their corresponding explanations.
In addition, the manuscript Crucifixión by Federico García Lorca, a copy of the first edition of Don Quixote, a portulano Atlas by Joan Martines, an engraving by Goya and an Aristón disc by Federico Chueca were shown.
The next stage was the press room and magazines that, at the request of the Press Association of Madrid, has been renamed Larra. The visit continued through the Larra room, the digitalization and microfilming space, where Letizia signed in the book of honour with a dedication in which she highlighted the “great privilege” that “supposed to have been able to travel this morning ( It is always a short time …) this treasure, often hidden from so many, which is the National Library of Spain “. “More than 300 years leading the enormous and valuable work of gathering, cataloguing, conserving, disseminating and transmitting the bibliographic and documentary heritage of our country, with effort, dedication and professionalism,” the Queen has written.
A commemorative plaque was unveiled to mark the occasion.
Before leaving, Queen met with the donors and employees of the library.
