Queen Letizia of Spain today attended a working meeting of Spanish Association Against Cancer in Madrid. Queen is the honorary President of the Association which for more than 60 years has been fighting against cancer.
The AECC is the first entity whose Honorary Presidency was assumed by the Queen on a permanent basis, and in which she actively participates in the work of the association, recognizing the important work she has been doing for more than 60 years in the fight against cancer, during which she has led the effort of Spanish society to reduce the impact caused by this disease and improve the lives of people.
The AECC integrates patients, relatives, volunteers and professionals who work together to prevent, sensitize, support and accompany the affected people and finance cancer research projects that will allow better diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
It was constituted on March 5, 1953, with the purpose of fighting against cancer in all known modalities or in the future they were known and was declared of “Public Utility” in April 1970. Structured in 52 Provincial Boards and present in more than 2,000 Spanish locations, the AECC develops its work through its more than 16,000 volunteers and 680 employees under a philosophy of collaboration with health authorities, scientific institutions and those other entities pursuing a purpose analogous to that of the association. All this always under the principles of independence, professionalism, transparency and closeness.
During the meeting the strategic plan of the AECC, the new focus of attention of the association and the advisory services, among other topics, were addressed. Letizia attends many working meetings during the year.
At the end of the meeting, Letizia visited the facilities of the Madrid headquarters of the AECC. The tour started in the children’s rooms of the residence and continued through the online workshops. In these workshops, Letizia checked the operation of virtual reality glasses used by patients during treatments. The next room visited by Letizia was the Physical Oncology Exercise Unit and then the Common Space.
At the end of the Letizia went to the reception where she had a brief meeting with the members of the Madrid Council of the AECC.
For the day, Queen Letizia chose a typically Letizia look. She debuted a new white button-down blouse.
