The pandemic has eaten many of the royal and military events worldwide. The event that has been cancelled second year in a row because of the lockdow is annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Celebrated on March 17, the St. Patrick’s Day marks the death anniversary of Irish Saint.
Every year, the 1st Battalion Irish Guards hold a military parade every year, at Cavalry Barracks in Hounslow. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attend the parade each year. Prince William has been the Colonel of the Irish Guards since May 2011.
Today, Kensington Palace released a video message in which The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined world leaders to wish the Irish community a Happy St. Patrick’s Day. The couple were joined by the US President Joe Biden, Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, New-Zealand Prime Minister, Japan royals and many more leaders across the globe.
Prince William began the video by wishing in Irish Gaelic, “Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig oraibh!”. It means Happy St Patrick’s Day. Catherine followed and said, “We’are delighted to wish all of you a very happy St Patrick’s day“.
William, always the jokesters, teased Catherine and said, “How come you got the easy bit!”.
The Duke of Cambridge remembered their first visit to Ireland in 2020 and their Northern Ireland visit in 2019 and said, “We were so thrilled to be able to visit Ireland just over a year ago, a few short weeks before all of our lives were turned upside down by the pandemic”.
“The warm welcome that we received everywhere was a testament to the friendship between our two countries and the strength of the relationship between the UK and Ireland”- The Duchess of Cambridge
William continued, “We know that for Irish people all around the world today won’t be the same as normal, but we hope that you can celebrate safely in any case.” and both wished Happy St. Patrick’s Day once again.
The Duke of Cambridge also sent a letter to the Irish Guards saying, “Catherine and I would like to wish the Irish guards a very happy St. Patrick’s Day. Sadly COVID restrictions mean that we cannot be with you this year, but it has been heartening to hear about the important work that you have been doing to support the response to the pandemic across the UK…. As your Colonel, I could not be more proud of the grit and determination displayed over the last twelve months and I look forward to the time when we can be on Parade with you all once again.”
The Duchess of Cambridge was looking absolutely gorgeous in an apple green Zara double breasted textured blazer. Thanks to Caroline Parr and Kate’s Closet for the id.
Always the sartorial diplomat, The Duchess of Cambridge was wearing Daniella Draper mini cupid shamrock hoops and Daniella Draper Gold Baby Shamrock Necklace.
Both pieces debuted in Ireland last year in March.
