Today, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Catherine, undertook their first joint in-person engagement of the year 2021. The Royal couple visited School 21 in Stratford, London, to congratulate teachers involved in the re-opening of the school following lockdown.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were homeschooling their children at their country home Anmer Hall since December 2020. The couple came back last weekend ahead of Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s school opening this Monday.
During the visit, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge learnt about the school’s promotion of a children’s mental health programme. As always The Duchess of Cambridge spent time with school children. They met with the staff and students and talked about how they are coping with in-person classes after a long period of homeschooling.
The Duchess of Cambridge’s Mentally Healthy Schools project that was launched in 2018 is being implemented in the school and they learnt about its progress. After its success at the primary schools around the UK, Mentally Healthy Schools, provided by the Anna Freud Centre, is the UK’s first mental health information and resource hub for secondary schools and colleges. The project will now be adopted by secondary schools in the United Kingdom.
The school received an initial implementation grant from the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Prince William and Catherine held a small briefing with the school teachers during the visit.
