King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain undertook two engagements at the Royal Palace of Zarzuela in Madrid. Early in the day, they received the tennis player Garbiñe Muguruza Blanco, on the occasion of her victory in the “AKRON WTA Finals 2021” championship in Guadalajara (Mexico) on November 17 this year.
Ms. Blaco was accompanied by the president of the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation, Miguel Díaz Román, and the representative of Garbiñe, Cecilia Casla Urteaga. The Spanish of Venezuelan origin Garbiñe Muguruza is the first Spanish to win the AKRON WTA Finals, defeating Anett Kontaveit of Estonia by 6-3 and 7-5, which earned her third title of the year.
Muguruza is the first Spanish to win the singles title of the WTA Finals in the history of the event. Former world number one Arantxa Sánchez Vicario was the only other player from Spain to reach the final of the WTA Finals, finishing runner-up behind Stefanie Graf in 1993.
Later in the day, The Royal couple chaired the XXVIII Board meeting of the Princess of Girona Foundation.
During the meeting, the activity report for 2021, the action plan for 2022, and the strategic plan that will be followed for the years 2022-2025, among other topics, were presented.

For the day, Queen Letizia chose her green Carolina Herrera suit that we first saw in February 2020.
