Queen Letizia of Spain is visiting New York for a 2-days packed with various activities and engagements. The first agenda on Letizia’s itinerary in the ‘Big Apple’ was a UNICEF Mental Health meeting. Yesterday, Queen Letizia joined the British Royal Family with world royals and leaders to bid a heartfelt farewell to Queen Elizabeth II. Letizia flew to New York directly from London this morning.
Upon arrival in the city that never sleeps, Queen Letizia was received by the Spanish ambassador to the United States of America, Santiago Cabanas.

Queen Letizia is the Honorary President of UNICEF Spain and the Ombudsman for Mental Health in Children and Adolescents. Since being a part of the Royal Family, Letizia has been actively working in the field with various organizations to bring Mental Health to the front line. Tuesday’s meeting was attended by experts in the field of Mental Health and fell under the weekly agenda of the United Nations General Assembly and the Secretary General’s Summit for the Transformation of Education.
The meeting was held at the INNSIDE by Melià New York Nomad. The other attendees included the Executive Director of UNICEF Spain, UNICEF Senior Technical Advisor on Mental Health, and the Head of Campaigns and Advocacy in the Division of Global Communications and Advocacy of the United Nations Children’s Fund of UNICEF.
After a working meeting with the experts, Queen Letizia of Spain met with the youth leaders involved in Mental Health initiatives. Headed by the coordinator of the UNICEF adolescent work team, Katarzyna Pawelczyk, the leaders who attended the meeting were of age between 16 to 21 and hailed from various corners of the world i.e. Bulgaria, Indonesia etc and are actively working in different fields like education, LGBTQ+, U_Matter.
The next agenda of the day’s schedule was an event organized by UNICEF, UNESCO, WHO and the Government of Thailand, which is part of the Summit on the Transformation of Education that is held days before the general debate of the UN General Assembly and which has been convened by the UN Secretary-General to place education at the top of the global political agenda.
Later in the day, Queen Letizia will be meeting the UNICEF director, Director of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and will attend various events.

Today, Once again, Letizia paired the dress with her Magrit Slingback pumps that she had customized with a rubber sole due to ‘chronic metatarsalgia’ – a condition in which the ball of the foot becomes painful and inflamed. Letizia has been suffering from ‘chronic metatarsalgia’ for some time now. We first noticed that she had some health issues in 2021.
