King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain departed for their first official overseas visit of the year 2023 today. Felipe and Letizia will be visiting the Republic of Angola for the next two days where they will be undertaking various engagements. The Royal couple will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares.
Felipe and Letizia are visiting Angola at the invitation of the Angolan Government. The Royal couple departed from the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport in Madrid after the military send-off ceremony.
Felipe and Letizia arrived at the Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport in Luanda in the evening where they were received by the Spanish Ambassador to the country. The couple will be beginning their official agenda on Tuesday morning with a visit to the Agostinho Neto Memorial. Located in the capital, Luanda, a tribute to former President António Agostinho Neto, whose remains rest inside this monument.
Next, Felipe and Letizia will be officially received by President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço and First Lady, Ana Afonso Dias at the President’s residence. Then they will visit Banco Económico, where they will attend the presentation of the International University of Cuanz -which has joined the network of institutions collaborating with the Fundación Universitaria Iberoamericana (FUNIBER)- and will inaugurate Miro’s exhibition “El Cántico del Sol y las Maravillas Acrostáticas”, with works from the private collection of this entity.
The First day in Angola will be concluded with a reception hosted by the King and Queen for the Spanish Community.
On Wednesday morning, Felipe and Letizia have separate agendas. While Felipe will be heading to inaugurate the Angola-Spain business meeting with President Lourenço, Queen Letizia will be visiting Lucrecia Paím Maternity Hospital with the First Lady, to learn about the work that is done there with newborns. The next stop would be the Angolan National Assembly for the Royal couple. Then King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia will bid farewell to their hosts at the President’s house and head home.
For the departure – Queen Letizia kept her outfit simple and comfortable for the journey.
Letizia was wearing her black wool coat which still remains unidentified. Underneath the coat, she was wearing a fuchsia turtleneck sweater with black trousers.
