King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain presented the Delivery of the 2022 “Miguel de Cervantes” – one of the biggest Spanish Literature Prizes given to the creative work of Spanish and Latin American writers, at the Auditorium of the University of Alcalá, Alcalá de Henares, Madrid. The winner of the year is the Venezuelan poet Rafael Cadenas.
The Cervantes Prize is endowed with 125,000 euros and is given by the Ministry of Culture and Sports. Upon Arrival, The Royal couple received a military-styled welcome and Felipe reviewed a Company of Honors.
The event began with the interpretation of the National Anthem, by the “Ciudad de Alcalá” Orchestra.
Talking about Rafael Cadenas, King Felipe said that “Rafael is that of a great modern poet. That of someone who does not want “style, but honesty”, a very valuable ambition; an aspiration that entails “righteousness, integrity in acting”, according to our Dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy. A magnificent, admirable purpose”.
The day ended with the interpretation of “Gaudeamus Igitur”, by the Choir of the University of Alcalá de Henares.
King Felipe and Queen Letizia met with the winner, Rafael Cadenas, and his family.
Tomorrow, Felipe and Letizia will offer the traditional lunch at the Royal Palace of Madrid that will bring together authorities, academics, editors, critics, professors, booksellers and writers, and in which the winner will be honoured.
