Queen Letizia of Spain attended the event marking the Red Cross and Red Crescent Day at the Prince Felipe Auditorium-Congress Palace in Oviedo. The event also marked the 160 years of the Spanish Red Cross.
In 160 years, the Spanish Red cross has grown substantially and today it has more than 254,000 volunteers who respond in 1,263 municipalities, and serves more than 11.8 million public members.
During the event, Queen Letizia presented the Gold Medals to various individuals and entities who have been supporting the causes of the Red Cross. Winners included San Camilo Center, the Spanish Federation of Rare Diseases, filmmaker Fernando León de Aranoa, scientist Fernando Valladares, the Neuro-rights Foundation and the Servimedia Agency.
