King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain concluded their busy week with the glamorous and prestigious ABC Journalism Awards at the ABC Headquarters in Madrid. The annual evening event is one of the staple in the Royal schedule. This year marks the 104th edition of the International Journalism Awards.
Queen Letizia has a long-standing successful career as a journalism and King Felipe himself understands the importance of impartial and independent media in the constitutional Monarchy.
Upon their arrival, His Majesties were received by the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, the head of the opposition, Alberto Núñez Feijóo; the ambassadors of Ukraine, Serhii Pohoreltsev and many other national and international dignitaries. Felipe and Letizia met with ABC Board members, jury members and this year’s award winners.
King Felipe and Queen Letizia then presented the awards to this year’s winners – Rodrigo Cortés, Rosa María Calaf and Said Khatib.
Addressing the gathering, King Felipe said, “Journalists are the first to relate what happens every day, the pioneers in transmitting “with words or images” the keys to interpreting every moment through a skilful and professional combination of the important and interesting. From a precise mixture of these ingredients comes the newspaper of each day, made available to its readers, primary recipients of the work of journalists. Hence the formidable importance and high responsibility of the work of the media“
