Leonor, The Princess of Asturias, and Infanta Sofia of Spain began the annual Princess of Girona Foundation Awards event in Barcelona with a visit to the Workshop of renowned artist Jaume Plensa at Sant Feliú de Llobregat. Leonor, who holds the title of Princess of Girona as the heir to the Spanish throne, will be presenting the annual awards tomorrow evening at the Costa Brava Congress Palace .
Every year, King Felipe VI, Queen Letizia, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia attend various events ahead of the annual awards that recognize the young people under the age of 35 for their research, artistic creativity, innovation, solidarity and entrepreneurial talent in the country. The year 2024 marks the 15th anniversary of the Foundation.
Both sisters dressed in the matching white outfits arrived at the workshop where they were received by the Government delegate of Catalonia. The artist, Jaume Plensa, gave a tour of his work place to both the Princesses. Leonor and Sofia along with the other attendees also received a brief masterful lesson on “The Importance of Art in Public Space.”
Jaume Plensa presented Leonor and Sofia with two miniature reproductions of the sculptures “Isabella,” an original work located in the central offices of Amazón in Seatle, and “Júlia,” located in the Plaza de Colón, in Madrid.
Later both Princesses joined their parents for the second event of the award ceremony.
