Leonor, The Princess of Asturias, has finished her first year of military training and has been appointed the Lady Cadet of the General Military of Spain by King Felipe VI. Leonor joined her fellow cadets for a military parade where King Felipe was presided over the passing out ceremony. Queen Letizia of Spain and Infanta Sofia were also present for the occasion.
King Felipe presented a sabre, Great Cross of Military Merit with a white badge to all the passing out cadets. Leonor received a special hug from her father after receiving the passing out credentials.
The King, Queen and Infanta Sofia were welcomed with a military ceremonial ceremony. Then Felipe reviewed the companies of students, and after greeting the civil and military authorities, the event began with a prayer of thanksgiving, by Archbishop Castrense of Spain.
After receiving her honours, the Future Queen of the country joined the King, The Queen and her sister for the rest of the ceremony. In Spain, the Monarch is the head of all forms of army. Princess Leonor is going through three years long training that consists a year with each form – General Army, Navy and Air Force.
Leonor joined General Military Academy of Zaragoza in August last year. During the last one year, we have seen her participating in various military and training related events. The General Military Academy is the central hub in the Land Army for the teaching of general and specific military training. In August 2024, Leonor will then head to Marín Naval Military Academy for a couple of months before a training journey aboard the teaching ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano.
