Queen Letizia of Spain presided over the closing ceremony of the 14th Atlàntida Mallorca Film Festival at the Cultural Center “La Misericordia” in Palma. The Spanish Royal family finished the Madrid summer agenda last week and moved to the Balearic Island for the annual summer break. King Felipe and Queen Letizia will be attending various events during the stay at the Marivent Palace on the scenic island.

Coming back to the Mallorcan Film Festival, that was first hosted 12 years ago as the first online film festival in the country, has grown to become the most important hybrid festival in the world, with more than 750,000 spectators at its double venue: a week in Mallorca and a month in Filmin. The event recognize the work of Directors, artists and other professionals involved in the film makings around the globe for their significant contributions.

This year’s awards included Film Criticism Award which was given to Director Catalin Moldovai, The Public Prize was then awarded to the film “The Balconettes” by director Noémie Merlant, The Best Short Award went to “Blava Terra” by director Marine Auclair March, The Best Long Prize was awarded to the Hall of Director Pere Antoni Sastr.  The Award for the Best National Film was awarded to Director Juan Gautier, the Award for Best International Film went to the Silver Venus.

The event always honour a special personality in the world of Film and TV. This year’s special tribute was given to Michael Douglas. Queen Letizia presented the Master of Cinema Award 2024 to film actor and producer. The American Actor and Producer has received numerous accolades, including two Academy Awards, five Golden Globe Awards, a Primetime Emmy Award, the Cecil B. DeMille Award, and the AFI Life Achievement Award.
