King Felipe and Queen Letizia attended the Funeral of Juan Gomez-Acebo

King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain led the Spanish Royal Family at the funeral of Felipe’s cousin, Juan Gomez-Acebo, at the Castrense Cathedral. Juan’s demise on August 12th comes just months after Juan’s younger brother Fernando died in March at the age of 49. Both were the sons of the King Juan Carlos’s older sister the late Infanta Pilar.

Juan passed away at the age of 54 in Palma de Mallorca after a battle with cancer. According to El Debate, Juan was surrounded by his family during his final moments. King Juan Carlos, Queen Sofia, Infanta Christina and Princess Alexia of Greece were among the guests at the funeral.

Queen Letizia just arrived from Paris earlier this week after attending 4 days of Paralympics. This was her first public appearance since summer break in Greece and Balearic Island.

Queen Victoria Eugenie’ Pearl necklace was a wedding gift to the Queen from her husband, King Alfonso XIII. Queen Victoria Eugenie made a big part of her jewellery collection ‘ joyas de pasar’ – Royal jewels that are passed down to Queens. Letizia was also wearing her gold Coreterno ring.
