Queen Letizia of Spain was in Milan, Italy for the annual World Cancer Research Day. Letizia attended the event at the Institute of Molecular Oncology in the Capital city. The event was organized by the Spanish Association Against Cancer along with Italian Cancer Research Foundation.
Upon arrival in the neighboring country, Letizia was received by the Spanish ambassador to the Italian Republic, the Consul General of Spain in Milan and the Presidents of both Spain and Italy Cancer Research foundations.

This year and under the motto – ‘Innovation in cancer research brings us closer to equity’ – the international scientific community has addressed the importance of promoting innovation in oncology research as a priority to bring results closer to patients, boosting cancer prevention as well as improving the survival and quality of life of patients.
During her time at the institute, the Spanish Queen toured the facilities of the Institute and learnt about the various ongoing researches and works. The World Cancer Research Day is a key milestone in the fight against cancer – worldwide – that aims to exceed 70% of cancer survival by 2030.

Addressing the gathering at the central event, Queen Letizia said, “all of us gathered here today, share a strong commitment to promoting and advancing cancer research. Our foremost goal is to ensure that the knowledge derived from this research really and effectively reaches patients as quickly as possible”.
Before heading back home, Letizia also held a meeting with the Spanish researchers, where she was able to know first-hand the different challenges they have in Italy.
