Ahead of the audiences, Queen Letizia met with Marcio Olona, who suffers from laminopathy. Queen Letizia has been working with Spanish Rare Disease federation since 2010 to raise awareness about the rare diseases. The Private audience was the reason for Letizia’s late arrival at Zarzuela for audiences.
Letizia’s first meet at the Royal Palace was with the Spanish Association of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis – adELA, a non-profit organization, at the state level, dedicated to helping people with ELA (Later Amiotrophic Sclerosis) and other motorbike diseases, to improve their quality of life.
The members of the AdELA Board of Directors talked about the work that this association carries out every day to assist and help the patients of ELA and their families. adELA was founded in 1990 by a small group of friends, family and caregivers of patients, with support from the famous scientist and Prince of Asturias Prize winner, Stephen Hawking. In 2000, Queen Sofia became its President of Honor, ratifying the Association’s constancy and commitment to society. Today Queen Letizia is the President of Honor.
Later in the afternoon, Queen Letizia met with the Women’s Music Association. Founded in 1989 thanks to the initiative of the composer Ma Luisa Ozaita, today the foundation has more than one hundred and fifty associates covering all kinds of musical and artistic fields: Composition, Interpretation, Musicology, Pedagogy, Cultural Management, etc.
The purpose of the association is to promote and disseminate the presence of music professionals in history and today.
