King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark hosted their third New Year Reception this week. The Royal couple first hosted the Traditional New Year Gala on January 01st and then yesterday hosted a reception for the civil officials and diplomatic corps. The King and Queen traveled from the Amalienborg Palace to Christianborg Palace in the Gold Coach, escorted by the Guard Hussar Regiment’s Mounted Squadron. The golden carriage is the finest carriage of the Royal Family and was built for Christian VIII by the carriage maker Henry Fife in 1840. The carriage is coated with 24-carat gold leaf, has four gold-plated crowns on the roof and a painted coat of arms on the doors.
The guest list of the evening included fficers from the Armed Forces, the National Emergency Management Agency, invited Representatives of large National Organizations, and Royal Patronage. Upon arrival, Frederik and Mary were received by the master of the ceremony and then the King inspected the troops at the Killian Wall before heading to receive the guests in Tonsal and the Great Hall.
The traditional New year events of the Danish Royal family dates back to mid-1600s.
