King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain presided over the Cervantes Institute’s first board meeting of the year 2025 at the Royal Palace of El Pardo in Madrid. King Felipe is the Honorary President of the Institute.
The Cervantes Institute is the public institution established by Spain in 1991 to universally promote the teaching, study and use of Spanish language and contribute to the Spanish and Latin American culture abroad. The institute collaborates with prestigious national and international, public and private institutions, in order to ensure that services related to Spanish language are governed by quality criteria. Currently, the Cervantes Institute has its presence in more than 90 cities in 45 countries, through its centers, classrooms and extensions, on the five continents.
Joining the Royal couple for the annual board meetings was the Spanish Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation, the director of the Cervantes Institute and the board members.
During the meeting, the 2024 annual report was presented which briefed the various activities and project progresses. Ahead of the meeting, King Felipe and Queen Letizia presented the Cervantes Institute’s 2024 Award to Korean Hispanicist, Park Chul, professor emeritus of Hispanic Literature at Hankuk University in South Korea and one of the greatest experts in Cervantes and languages issues in his country. He has been a member of the Royal Spanish Academy of Korea since 2009.
