King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain had an away day and visited Caravaca de la Cruz in Murcia. Caravaca de la Cruz celebrated a jubilee year in 2024.

The Royal couple was received by the president of the Region of Murcia in the Plaza del Arco. The Murcian town of Caravaca de la Cruz, which celebrates their “Jubilee in Perpetuum” since January 9, 1998, when Saint John Paul II granted the celebration of a Jubilee Year every seven years in a perpetual way, beginning in 2003 and being 2024 the fourth that has been celebrated since then.

After greetings, Felipe and Letizia visited the Royal Basilica-Sanctuary of Vera Cruz. They were welcomed by the bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena-Murcia. The bishop offered a service at the church which the Royal couple attended. King Felipe and Queen Letizia signed in the book of honor of the Royal and Illustrious Brotherhood of the Blessed and Vera Cruz de Caravaca.

There were more than 800,000 visitors in murcia in 2024, a 60 percent increase over 2017, and an economic impact on the Region of Murcia that exceeded 200 million euros. Next, King Felipe and Queen Letizia headed to the old church of the Society of Jesus, the seat of the exhibition The Century of Tegeo. Upon their arrival, they were received by the president of the Camino de la Cruz Foundation and Councillor for Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports of the Region of Murcia.

During the tour of the exhibition, King Felipe and Queen Letizia received explanations from the curator and greeted the patrons of the Camino de la Cruz Foundation. The President of the Murician Government presented the King with a very special gift, an original of the proclamation of the Constitution of 1837 by the Queen Regent.  This is a popular engraving, the Proclamation of the Constitution of 1837 commemorating the oath that Queen Elizabeth II made of the Constitution in the Courts.
