King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain had an away day in Guadalupe as part of King Felipe’s 10th Proclamation Anniversary. As the summer begins, we will see King Felipe and Queen Letizia visiting various Spanish regions as part of their summer agenda. The Royal Couple was in Wales on Saturday to attend the Graduation Ceremony of Infanta Sofia.
Felipe and Letizia visited the City Hall and the Royal Monastery of Santa Maria de Guadalupe. The historic enclave declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1993. Felipe and Letizia spent the day meeting with local institutions, the elders and the emblematic Royal Monastery of Santa María de Guadalupe.
The visit began in the City of Guadalupe, where the Royal couple held a meeting with the Municipal Corporation, headed by the mayor, José Miguel Martín. The city offers more than 700 hotel places, a town that hosts, nestled in the Villuecas-Iborra-Jara geopark, of great geological, natural and cultural value, this park is part of the Global Geopark Network of UNESCO since 2015.
Felipe and Letizia toured the Royal Monastery of Santa María de Guadalupe. The visited the library, emblematic rooms and sign the book of honour to mark the visit. The monastery, dating from the 14th century, was founded by Alfonso XI and has witnessed milestones such as the audience of the Catholic Kings to Christopher Columbus, prior to the discovery of America.
Felipe and Letizia spent the afternoon meeting and greeting locals, standing for selfies, taking pictures and sharing little tid-bits.
