When Princess Leonor of Spain arrived on the docks of Panama City aboard the Spanish school ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano, someone very special was waiting for her on the docks – her mother, Queen Letizia of Spain. The mother daughter duo had an emotional union in Panama.
They were meeting after 4 months. Letizia waved Leonor off from the docks of the Port of Cadiz in January this year. Since then Leonor has been learning the skills of the life of a Spanish marine guard along with 75 other students. Since January, the ship has traveled through the Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas, the Canarian ports to Brazil. The next destination was Chile, from there the ship headed to Peru and today arrived in Panama.
Letizia was not the only parent waiting for her child on the Panama Docks, there were many other families in Panama today to meet their children who joined the sea adventure at the same time as Leonor did in January. The ship will stay in Panama until May 06th. Queen Letizia will be spending a couple of days with her eldest daughter in scenic Panama.
From Panama, Leonor will be heading to Cartagena de Indias and Santa Marta (Colombia), Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic) and New York (United States) with her fellow marine guards and then from there fly home to finish the navy year.
