The fair, running from May 30 to June 15, 2025, is one of Spain’s most significant cultural events for book and literature enthusiasts, featuring 365 booths and expecting over one million visitors.
This year’s theme, “New York Illuminates the Retiro,” highlights a cultural connection with New York City, with notable authors like Eduardo Lago, Rebecca Solnit, and Junot Díaz participating, alongside Spanish writers such as Vanessa Montfort, Javier Sierra, and Pilar Eyre. This year’s event is paying tribute to literary figures including Mario Vargas Llosa, Carmen Martín Gaite, Paul Auster, Federico García Lorca, Ana María Matute, and Gabriela Mistral, emphasizing its Ibero-American focus and rich cultural heritage.
Queen Letizia, known for her passion for reading, toured various booths, including the Children’s Pavilion, where she observed a storytelling workshop aimed at promoting reading among children. She also visited the Ibero-American Pavilion, which strengthens the fair’s international scope and promotes Spanish-language literature.
