The State Pact to protect children and Young people in the digital environment, is an initiative that seeks to address the increasing risks faced by minors on the Internet and social networks. The meeting took place in a context of growing social concern about the negative impact that, in certain circumstances, the use of digital environments in children and adolescents can have. Problems such as access to inappropriate content, exposure to violence, school and sexual harassment, anxiety or depression are just some of the consequences that have been put on the table during the day.

The State Pact proposes a set of measures that seek to generate a social and political consensus to protect minors in the digital environment. These include the recognition of the problem, the training of professionals working with children and adolescents, and the improvement of the current legislative framework, so as to ensure a secure digital environment adapted to the rights of children. The European Association for the Digital Transition – AETD, a non-profit and promoter of the pact, highlights the need to move towards digitisation that respects European values and with special sensitivity to the most vulnerable population, promoting ethical and sustainable digital leadership.
