Under the clear summer skies of London, Catherine, Princess of Wales, made her triumphant return to the public stage at Trooping the Colour 2025, the annual parade marking the official birthday of King Charles III. This was Princess of Wales’ second public engagement in the month of June. Earlier in the week Kate visited the V&A Museum’s East London Storehouse after its opening for public.
The Trooping the Colour parade is a centuries-old military tradition, celebrating the monarch’s birthday with a spectacular display of British pageantry. Over 1,400 soldiers, 400 musicians, and 200 horses from the Household Division participated in the vibrant procession, which began at Buckingham Palace and moved to Horse Guards Parade, before concluding with the Royal Air Force flypast.
The Irish Guards, for whom Kate Middleton is honorary Colonel, had the honor of trooping their colour. A symbolic moment indeed—made more poignant by Kate’s long-standing association with the regiment. Fashion lovers were quick to admire Kate’s ensemble, and for good reason. The Princess wore a Customized aquamarine coatdress by Catherine Walker, a hue rich in symbolism. Aquamarine is the color of the plume worn by the Irish Guards in their bearskin hats, a thoughtful nod to her military role and the regiment she proudly represents.
Princess Kate arrived at Buckingham Palace by car with Prince William and their three children: Prince George (11), Princess Charlotte (10), and Prince Louis (7). Inside the car, Prince Louis sat between his parents, while George and Charlotte sat opposite.
For the parade, the children joined their mother in an open Ascot Landau carriage, a nod to tradition—and a treat for the cheering crowds lining The Mall. Kate was seated beside Charlotte, with George and Louis opposite her. Onlookers noted the warm interactions between the princess and her children, as she pointed out different elements of the ceremony with motherly pride.
At Horse Guards Parade, Kate stood alongside King Charles III and Queen Camilla on the royal dais—resuming a major ceremonial role she last held in 2023. In 2024, due to her treatment, she observed the parade privately. This year’s appearance marked a symbolic return to form for the Princess of Wales.
Later, she joined the rest of the royal family on the Buckingham Palace balcony for the much-anticipated RAF flypast, where the Red Arrows painted the sky in a patriotic display of red, white, and blue.
