Princess Diana’s Collingwood Pearl and Diamond Earrings

Description

The Princess of Wales, Catherine, first wore Princess Diana’s Collingwood Pearl and Diamond Earrings in July 2017 at the Spanish State banquet. The earrings were a gift to The then Princess of Wales, Diana, from the company Collingwood (Collingwood was the family jeweller of the Spencer Family) at her wedding in 1981, hence the name Collingwood earrings.

The earrings feature a very sleek and elegant design, a pearl in the shape of a drop hanging from diamond suspenders. Each diamond suspender is attached to a diamond stud at the top.

Diana first wore the elegant earrings in June 1981, a month before her wedding, at a banquet given at Claridge’s hotel for King Khalid of Saudi Arabia

And then she famously wore them in July 1981 on her wedding day with her going away outfit. Reportedly the family jewellers wanted to gift Diana a set consisting of these earrings and a matching necklace. But they end up giving just the earrings after the Royal intervention that believed the gift would be too extravagant. Lady Diana wore the necklace at the banquet in June 1981 (shown in the pictures above).

Lady Diana has worn the earrings famously with Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot tiara many times. The combination of the tiara pearls and the pearls in earrings has such similarities that most of the time they look like a single set.
