The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge toured Scotland in May 2021. The couple visited Orkney, Edinburgh and Fife. It was their first visit to Orkney. They have visited Edinburgh in past many times.
And Fife is the place where their love story began in 2001 when they were students at the University of St Andrews. The tour came after Prince William’s appointment as the Lord High Commissioner of the Church of Scotland by Her Majesty The Queen. The Duke undertook ceremonial duties including speeches at the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland before Catherine joined him on May 24th.
The Duke and Duchess hosted several events during the week to thank individuals that have gone above and beyond to support their communities over the last year including NHS staff, frontline workers, emergency responders, volunteers, and the military.
Twenty years since they met at university, The Duke and Duchess took a trip down memory lane and returned to the University of St Andrews to meet with current students, and heard how they had coped and supported each other during a difficult year. They also joined young carers from the local Fife area for a session of land yachting on the beach.
