Their Majesties King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia presided over the Solemn Session of the Cortes Generales held in the Palace of the Cortes to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the elections held on June 15, 1977.
HM King Felipe addressed the Members and Senators today and remarked,” to commemorate is to remember the event we celebrate, but also to remember its causes, it is indeed to show appreciation to its protagonists and to value their work, and also to extol and update the values that the event commemorated deserves and represents.
This event commenced a series of commemorations that will last for more than a year and culminate on December 6, 2018, when the 40th anniversary of the referendum approval of the 1978 Constitution will begin.
During the visit, Their Majesties view the plaque commemorating the XL Anniversary of the general elections of June 15, 1977, and At the end of it, Their Majesties inaugurated the exhibition “40 years of the first democratic elections”.
For the national event, Queen Letizia did not disappoint the Spanish public and royal fans when it came to her looks today. She marked the day in red Carolina Herrera number.

Letizia paired the dress with her old diamond and ruby earrings with an elegant chignon and a diamond bracelet that we have seen in the past many times.
