Today Queen Letizia visited the Granada to presided over the inauguration of the Exhibition “La Granada Zirí and the Berber universe”, organized by the Patronage of the Alhambra and Generalife and the Andalusian Legacy.

The exhibition is being organized with the collaboration of the Doctor Leila Mezian Foundation and takes place in the Chapel and Crypt of the Palace of Carlos V, within the Monumental Complex of the Alhambra and the Generalife, between December 5, 2019, and April 21, 2020.

Under the title “La Granada Zirí and the Berber universe”, the Patronage of the Alhambra and Generalife and the Andalusian Legacy, reveals the Berber people and the profound influence they exercised in the Iberian Peninsula after their arrival in al-Andalus.

In the eleventh century, it was the Zirí Berbers, from North Africa and governors of the Taifa of Elvira, who decided to establish their capital in Granada, decisively influencing their urban configuration. The exhibition will consist of donations from the Moroccan patron Laila Mezian Benjelloun.

Al-Ándalus, in particular, Granada, maintained very close ties with the North African Berber peoples, which have lasted for centuries. This exhibition highlights the history, cultural heritage, ties artistic exchanges and commercial relationship between the two communities during the medieval period.

Queen Letizia visited the Exhibition “La Granada Zirí and the Berber universe” in the Palace of Carlos V, in the Monumental Complex of the Alhambra and the Generalife, guided by the curator of the exhibition, Antonio Malpica.

During the visit, Queen toured the different rooms. She also saw a video “Granada zirí”. The Queen visited the Mezian Foundation Collection with the exhibition of mannequins with textiles.

Next, Her Majesty the Queen received the greeting of the restoration and plasterwork and tiling workshop of the Patronage of the Alhambra and Generalife, and was informed about the restoration works carried out and signed in the Alhambra’s book of honour.

After the exhibition and in collaboration with the Kingdom of Morocco, a large permanent Berber museum will be launched in the city of Granada, with permanent funds from this private collection and also in the Alhambra.

Tonight, after attending the United Nation’s Health and Climate event, Queen Letizia again stepped out. This time she joined King Felipe at the ABC Newspaper Headquarter in Madrid for the Mariano de Cavia Awards.

 

The 99th edition of the International Journalism Awards was “Mariano de Cavia”, “Luca de Tena” and “Mingote” Prize that recognize the professional career and the best journalistic works published by publishing companies in their media, in 2018, in the usual categories of journalism, graphic journalism or drawing.

The awards were presented in the three categories: Mariano de Cavia Award for the article “Las Ramblas in the distance”, published by Gabriel Albiac in the ABC newspaper on August 17, 2018, for its literary quality and for keeping alive the memory of the jihadist terrorist attack in Barcelona a year earlier.

 

Luca de Tena Prize has gone to José Luis Corripio, for the work of a lifetime in the creation of the reference communication group in the Dominican Republic. Mingote Prize, to the graphic humorist José María Nieto chosen by the vignette Faith of rats “Let the hands of the Civil Guard children raise their hands”, published in ABC in October 2018, for their evocation of the struggle for the freedom of all who makes the meritorious body.
