King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain concluded their tour of autonomous counties of Spain with the last stop that holds a special place in the Royal household – Asturias. The heir to the Spanish throne holds a title of Prince/Princess of Asturias. Asturias is also birth land of Queen Letizia. Since June, The Royal couple has been travelling around the country to recognize the effort of the whole of Spanish society in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and to support different social sectors in the recovery after the pandemic.
Felipe and Letizia had a jam-packed schedule in Asturias. They toured the facilities of the Consortium for Solid Waste Management of Asturias (COGERSA), and later they moved to the Cerro de Santa Catalina where they walked and toured the 30th-anniversary exhibition of the Elogio del Horizonte, and in the afternoon, they visited the Museum and the Fernando Alonso circuit.
At the headquarters of the Consortium for Solid Waste Management of Asturias (COGERSA), they had a meeting with the representatives of the Consortium. Then they toured the facilities visiting the packaging plant and the sanitary waste.
The COGERSA facilities occupy 400 hectares located in the Councils of Gijón, Corvera and Llanera. The differential element of COGERSA is that it integrates all Asturian municipalities –78 city councils and the Government of the Principality- and the treatment of all kinds of waste. COGERSA recycles all waste from all over Asturias, and its main objective is to provide an efficient and useful public waste management service for the sustainable development of Asturias.
It directly employs more than 400 workers, a total of 800,000 tons are recycled per year, and all types of waste are recycled throughout the plant: domestic, commercial, industrial and hospital; organic, vegetable, paper and cardboard, plastics, glass and demolition; and hazardous waste.
The next stop of the day was the Cerro de Santa Catalina, where they visited the exhibition of the 30th anniversary of the Elogio del Horizonte.
The exhibition has two parts – thirty years of the Elogio de Horizonte and Elogio de Gijón. Through texts, photographs and images the exhibition represents the history of Gijón over the last thirty years.
Next, Felipe and Letizia walked through the hill and held a meeting with a representation of health workers from the Hospital de Cabueñes, a COVID-19 reference centre in Gijón.

Then the Royal couple travelled to Llanera to visit the Museum and the Fernando Alonso Circuit. There they met with students from the summer courses of the Asturian Center of Oviedo, a sports and cultural entity with 25,000 members.
Felipe and Letizia had a tour of the facilities passing through the karting circuit, the traffic education tent and finally the Museum.
For the last tour of the “Spain for Sure” campaign, Letizia debuted a chic dress.
She was wearing a Massimo Dutti spot dress.
The dress features short sleeves and a keyhole detail and was from label’s Spring-Summer 2019 collection.
Letizia paired the dress with her Mint & Rose Sardinia Suede Wedges.
Her gold huggie hoops and
her Karen Hallam Signature ring finished the look.
