Today, King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain along with their daughters Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sofia attended a special funeral mass held for the victims of COVID-19 at the Cathedral of Santa María la Real de la Almudena in Madrid.
The Royals were joined by the members of the Government, Opposition party and Society. They were received by the Archbishop of Madrid, Monsignor Carlos Osoro at the Cathedral.
The ceremony was officiated by the Cardinal Archbishop of Madrid, Carlos Osoro. Notably missing faces were, Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, and his Second Vice-President, Pablo Iglesias, who did not attend the service.
The family joined the gathering in the first row of the cathedral ahead of the service. After the liturgical procession led by the Archbishop of Madrid, the Eucharist began with a few words from the President of the Spanish Episcopal Conference.
During the Eucharist, the requests were made by people affected by the pandemic in different ways.
The liturgy ended with the blessing of the Archbishop of Madrid, who ended the religious ceremony. At the conclusion of the Eucharist, the Bishop of Ávila and former Secretary-General of the Spanish Episcopal Conference read Pope Francis’ prayer on the Pandemic.
Spain has registered a total of 298869 COVID-19 cases and 28,388 patients of COVID-19 lost their lives in this pandemic. The country spent almost 3 months in complete lockdown and is slowly recovering from the aftermath of the pandemic.
King Felipe and Queen Letizia have been travelling around the nation to promote tourism as the country’s economy heavily depends upon the tourists.
The family was wearing black and donned face mask for the socially distanced church service.
For the funeral mass, Queen Letizia was wearing a black full sleeve blouse with a black skirt. Both pieces are still unknown.
Letizia was wearing her black Manolo Blahnik pumps.
Queen was carrying her Carolina Herrera ‘Astrud’ Clutch.
She wore her Karen Hallam ring and what looked like her bezel stud earrings.
Princess of Asturias Leonore wore PoeteViczaya Dress with Pretty Ballerina flats.
