The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, today, visited Westminster Abbey in London where a vaccination centre is being run by Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The Royal family have been visiting vaccnation centres and working hard to promote the nation-wide COVID-19 vaccine initiative to encourage more and more Britishers to get their jab done.

Prince William and Catherine, who married at the same abbey in April 2011, were present at the poet’s centre at the church where so far more than 2000 people are being vaccinated each week. They met staff administering the vaccines on behalf of the local GP network, and some of the patients receiving their doses today.

Palace said, “In early March, the NHS opened the Westminster Abbey clinic to provide up to two thousand life-saving jabs each week to local Westminster residents. Run by Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, the vaccination centre operates from the south transept, home to the world-famous Poets’ Corner. The Abbey continues to remain open for a daily Holy Communion service. Doctors, nurses and countless other staff, supported by volunteers and others, are delivering the vaccination programme at more than 1,600 sites across the country ranging from cathedrals, mosques and temples to racecourses, sports stadiums, cinemas and museums”.

During the visit, The Duke and Duchess heard from staff about their experiences of being involved in the largest vaccination programme in the nation’s history, and working in one of Britain’s most revered buildings.

The couple thanked the staff for their hard work during the last one year. More than 22.8 million people have now had at least one jab in little over 100 days since the NHS vaccination programme began, whilst another 1.5million second doses have also been administered. On Sunday around 96,834 vaccinations an hour were were carried out, at an average of 27 jabs a second.

Her Majesty The Queen, today, led the nation in remembering those who lost their lives due to the COVID-19. Its been an year since the pandemic has disrupted the normal cause of our life forcing the whole world to adapt to new life style. Millions around the world had lost their loved ones due to the Coronavirus. The Queen released a statement today marking the ‘National day of Reflection’ that read,
As we look forward to a brighter future together, today we pause to reflect on the grief and loss that continues to be felt by so many people and families, and pay tribute to the immeasurable service of those who have supported us all over the last year.
In a very touching gesture, The Queen also sent a bouquet of irises, tulips, mixed narcissi and ranunculus and the message to St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London from Windsor Castle. Recently, Prince Philip went under a successful heart procedure at the hospital.

During their time at the Abbey, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took part in a private moment of reflection at the Shrine of St Edward the Confessor, observing a minute’s silence as part of the ‘National day of Reflection’. William lit a candle and Catherine laid daffodils.
