Today, the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, The Duchess of Cambridge made her first appearance at the ongoing Wimbledon 2021 tournament. The Duchess spent time watching a tennis match, visiting the Wimbledon Museum and learning how the facilities were used during Pandemic for the community.
The 2020 championship was cancelled due to the COVID-19 and Catherine narrated a video for Wimbledon. The Duchess is an avid Tennis lover and has been attending Wimbledon since her dating years. Prince George and Princess Charlotte have followed their Mummy and are already playing tennis at the Anmer Hall tennis court.
Today, The Duchess of Cambridge joined popular commentator and former Wimbledon semi-finalist Tim Henman and AELTC Chief Executive Sally Bolton for some court action and watched Jamie Murray in his first-round double’s match with Brazil’s Bruno Soares play against the US’ Nicholas Monroe and Canada’s Vasek Pospisil.
Catherine also met with Executive Chef Adam Fargin in the ground kitchen to learn how the kitchen has been used by the AELTC over the past year to prepare and distribute 200 daily hot meals for the local community in response to the pandemic.
The Duchess helped prepare the classic Wimbledon snack of strawberries and cream. This time around the year the UK has the best strawberry supply and the snack is a tradition of British summer.

Then it was time for some action. The Duchess of Cambridge tried her hand at the ‘reaction station’.
She visited Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum. She viewed some of the displays, including a special exhibition on ‘the Centenary of Centre Court’. The Museum, which was opened by The Duke of Kent in 1977, is a tribute to the heritage of the game and the history of The Championships.
This year, the Museum is accessible for free to Championships ticket-holders for the first time. The special exhibition is exploring the role that Centre Court has played as a witness to a period of considerable social and cultural progress, and the platform that the court, and The Championships, has provided for that change. AELTC head of heritage Adam Chadwick briefed the Duchess during the Museum tour.
Next, the Duchess of Cambridge joined The Duke of Kent, President of the AELTC, in the Royal box.
