Queen Letizia of Spain presided over the international event of “World Cancer Research Day” (WRCD) at the Madrid headquarters of the AECC in Madrid. Letizia is the Honorary President of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) and it’s Scientific Foundation. AECC was one of Letizia’s first patronages.
The AECC integrates patients, families, volunteers and professionals who work together to prevent, raise awareness, support and accompany affected people and finance cancer research projects that will allow a better diagnosis and treatment of cancer
This year’s Research day coincides with the 50th anniversary of the creation of the AECC Scientific Foundation. The event was a combination of face-to-face and digital meetings with international connections, with the projection of the video “WCRD initiative and campaign goals for this 2021”.
Addressing the attendees, Queen Letizia thanked all the speakers for participating in this meeting that, year after year, aims to highlight the challenges facing cancer research, especially after 18 months of a pandemic. She also highlighted the advances brought by network and collaborative research that make it possible that patients will have better access to more consistent information and researchers will increase their opportunities to advance.
