Queen Rania of Jordan was in the capital city of Northern Ireland, Belfast, for the opening of the One Young World Summit that brought youth activists and leaders from over 190 countries and 250 organizations. This year’s summit commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement between the British and Irish governments, which was signed in Belfast.
One Young World is a global platform that identifies, connects, and promotes young leaders from around the world, hosting an annual summit that convenes in a different city each year. Considered one of the world’s largest youth leadership summits, this year it takes place in Belfast, Northern Ireland, from 2-5 October.
In her address at the One Young World Summit in Belfast, Queen Rania urged young leaders to dedicate their time towards peace, a “lifelong mission” demanding substantial effort and time. Reflecting on historical peace endeavors like the Good Friday Agreement and the Wye River Memorandum, she highlighted the urgency of addressing global challenges like political polarization, climate change, and discrimination.
Expressing concern over the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli conflict and related injustices, she encouraged leaders to follow King Abdullah’s peaceful efforts, emphasizing the necessity of active engagement for lasting peace and progress
