Today, Queen Letizia of Spain traveled to Valencia for King Jaime I Awards and a municipal meeting. King Felipe of Spain was supposed to be present at the events too but as he came in contact with a COVID-19 positive person earlier this month, he is quarantining and not attending any public event.
King Jaime I Awards are awarded to individuals who stand out in their field of work and who have carried out most of their professional activity in Spain. Candidates must be nominated by third parties and must prove their qualities. There are currently six awards, each endowed with 100,000 euros and a gold medal. They are recognized as the most prestigious awards for the activity carried out in Spain and it is one of the best paid in the country. The winners of each category have the commitment to allocate a part of the prize money to research and entrepreneurship in Spain.
Doña Letizia was received by the president of the Generalitat Valenciana and the authorities of King Jaime I Awards foundation at the Market of the Merchants. The celebration of “King Jaime I ” 2020 Awards ceremony is one more reason to make visible and reinforce support for science and entrepreneurship in Spain, which this year more than ever, with the crisis of the pandemic, has revealed as essential for the advancement of society.
The ceremony began with the National anthem and minute notes followed by the award ceremony. The King Jaime I awards are presented in 6 categories: Basic Research, Economics , Medical Research, Environmental Protection, New Technologies and Entrepreneur Award.
This year’s award winners are García Vidal, Puga Pequeno, Beato del Rosal, Maestre Gil, Lechuga Gómez and Pascual Boé.
Queen Letizia on the behalf of King Felipe thanked the gatherings and congratulted the winners. She said, “his special affection for some awards that he has admired and supported for so many years for their excellence and international projection. And, of course , congratulates you from the heart, dear winners.”
Before leaving, the Anthem of the Valencian Community was played and Doña Letizia held a meeting with the winners and first authorities.
Next agenda of the day was an audience with a representation of the Local Police of Valencia. Queen Letizia went to the Sala del Comerç, accompanied by the President of the Generalitat Valenciana and Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, where she held an audience with a representation of the Police Local from Valencia, on the occasion of its 150th anniversary. The head of the Valencia Local Police, José Vicente Herrera presented the Queen a commemorative plaque and a cap in memory of the 150th anniversary of the Valencia Local Police.
The origins of the Local Police of Valencia date back to the second half of the 19th century. Specifically, on February 7, 1870, the Municipal Guard was created whose task was to give security to the neighbors “extirpating the crime whenever there is news of it”, always having as its main mission the service to the Valencians. In its long history, it has participated in humanitarian relief efforts in historical events in the city, such as the tragic flood of 1957, still remembered by Spanish elders with emotion and heroism, or the most recent floods of 1982, or the last damages. 2019 and 2020.
The work of the Local Police of Valencia has evolved and has adapted to each historical stage at the same time that the city changed and modernized. The members of the Local Police, due to their number and the importance of the work of service to the citizens that they carry out, have had and still have a great relevance in the functioning of the city, and this means that they have a rich and extensive history. In Valencia, the entry into the Corps of the first women took place on August 3, 1981, the promotion at that time was made up of 150 members, 29 of them were women.
Currently the Local Police of Valencia is structured in seven District units strategically distributed throughout the city, a Road Safety unit with exclusive traffic functions, a Coexistence and Security unit (UCOS), and numerous specialized sections, such as the section of GAMA (specialized service in violence against women), section of Attested, of great technical preparation, the Environmental section (UMA), the Cavalry section, the canine section or the Drones section, also pioneering at the time of its creation, as well as the European Projects Unit, totally innovative in terms of ideas, methods of action and awareness of new realities.
Currently the Local Police consists of 1,495 troops, of which 230 are women.
Now to Queen Letizia Style – Queen Letizia brought back one of the elegant piece from her wardrobe. Letizia wore Carolina Herrera double wool pearl grey-purple coat and a matching sleeveless dress.
The ensemble belongs to label’s 2016 fall collection and contains a double wool grey-purple coat with a matching sleeveless dress with an attached self-belt that ties at the front.
Queen Letizia first wore the outfit in 2016 during Portugal visit. She again wore the outfit in 2017 when she visited Caravaca de la Cruz (Murcia). The outfit made another comeback in 2018 during Geneva visit. We last saw the outfit at the Literature awards in April 2019.
