Spain is writing a new chapter in its Royal History. King Juan Carlos I abdicated the throne in the favour of his son, Felipe, after a series of scandals. The Royal Family was at the Royal Palace of Madrid where King Juan Carlos I signed the abdication paper that will be in effect from tonight midnight and Spain will have a new King with a new dawn – King Felipe VI.
On 2 June 2014, King Juan Carlos I announced that he would abdicate in favour of Felipe. And since then Palace’s new social media account has been sharing many pictures. Joining King Juan Carlos and Prince Felipe at the Palace for Abdication ceremony were Queen Sofia of Spain, the Queen-to-be Princess Leitizia, Infanta Leonor, Infanta Sofia (Felipe and Letizia’s daughters) and Felipe’s sisters Infanta Elena. You can read the Abdication documents here.
King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia will become the new King and Queen of Spain as of June 19, 2014. Their elder daughter, Infanta Leonor, will be the new heir presumptive of the Spanish throne and will receive the titles – Princess of Asturias, Princess of Girona, Princess of Viana, Duchess of Montblanc, Countess of Cervera and Lady of Balaguer. While Infanta Sofia her younger sister will move to the second in line to the throne.

So what does a Queen to-be wear on the eve of her Proclamation day – as always, Princess Letizia who tomorrow will become Queen Letizia, put her frugal foot forward and chose to repeat an outfit that we saw earlier this year in April 2014 at the Cervantes Awards ceremony.
Letizia gave a sweet touch of tribute to her Father-in-law and Mother-in-law with her diamond Wedding earrings that were a gift from King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia to Letizia in May 2004.
