Queen Letizia of Spain was visiting BBVA bank in Madrid to celebrate the 10th anniversary BBVA Microfinanzas. The foundation was established to create opportunities for vulnerable people through responsible finance. Queen Letizia of Spain is the Honorary President of the BBVA Micro Finance Foundation.
A special forum was held to discuss the trivialities of the Financial world and the main topics of the discussion were technological challenges and the role of women in the economy. Among the guests and speakers were the Economics Nobel Prize Winner Angus Deaton.
Speaking at the evening, the ex-journalist Letizia highlighted how “almost two million entrepreneurs have had access to financial services that have allowed them to move forward. In all of them, there was something in common: individual initiative, the desire for improvement, the wish to achieve a better life. And in many cases, behind all that energy is the deep longing for progress for their children; there is the need for their future to be more prosperous and for those children to have a better education. And this is one of the essential values of the Foundation: the impact that its work is having on the next generations, which is already quantifiable today, ten years later.“
The Spanish Queen heard the stories of the entrepreneurs who were helped by the foundation and was moved by their success journey that this initiative made possible. Social welfare, Young people’s development, Women empowerment are some national issues that are always on Queen Letizia’s public agenda.
