On the eve of the Princess of Asturias 2017 awards, King Felipe and Queen Letizia presided over XXVI Concert Awards Princess of Asturias organized by the Princesa de Asturias Foundation and Cajastur Liberbank.
Established in 1980 by the then twelve-year-old Felipe, Prince of Asturias, the Foundation recognizes individuals, entities, or companies from around the world who make notable achievements in the sciences, humanities, and public affairs. Presently the foundation is known as the Princess of Asturias foundation after Princess Leonor, the heiress of the Crown of Spain.
In Asturias, King and Queen were welcomed by the members of the public outside the auditorium. At the even, their Majesties enjoyed an orchestra concert performed by the Choir of the Princesa de Asturias Foundation, together with the Symphony Orchestra of the Principality of Asturias.
On Friday morning Their Majesties will start the day by receiving in audience, in the Hall of Councils of the Hotel Reconquista, from the winners with the “Medals of Asturias 2017”, the winners of the “End of Career 2016” awards of the University of Oviedo, as well as the presidents of the jury of the Awards, the members of the patronages Princess of Asturias and Foundation Princess of Asturias, and later in the evening, will deliver the Princess of Asturias Awards 2017.
For the occasion, Queen Letizia chose a dazzling blue Felipe Varela number. Since her coronation as Queen, Letizia has always honored the Spanish label on various occasions.
The peacock blue gown gave a vibe of a ballroom gown. The sleeveless midi dress featured a fitted bodice, round neck, drop-waist, and a flared pleated skirt and buttoned back.
The dress was quite a different choice from the black outfits Queen wore on the same occasion in past years.
Letizia paired her outfit with navy blue suede pumps from Nina Ricci.
She carried TOD’s Black satin clutch with lizard trim, jeweled toggle button closure. The $125.00 clutch is available at Therealreal for $87.50.
Today, we saw the return of many royal jewels. Queen wore glittering Yanes blue topaz chandelier earrings that we did not see since the 2010 wedding of Prince Nicolas of Greece with Tatiana Blatnik.
On her left wrist, Queen wore joyas de pasar diamond bracelets that are part of Queen Victoria Eugenie of Spain’s collection passed on to the Spanish Queens.
Letizia also wore the greenstone ring that she last wore during the official opening of professional courses on September 30th this year. The ring is yet to be identified.
The side-swept, sleek and elegant ponytail that showed off her dazzling earrings complimented the whole look.
