Today, King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain along with King Juan Carlos, Queen Sofia, Princess Leonor of Asturias and Infanta Sofia took part in the Solemn ceremony commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Spanish Constitution at the Congress of Deputies in Madrid.
Today marked 40 years of the Spanish Constitution’s approval. The Spanish constitution was approved by the Cortes Generales on 31 October 1978, and by the Spanish people in a referendum on 6 December 1978. Since then December 6 is being celebrated as Constitution Day every year.
King Felipe and Queen Letizia along with Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia were received by the members of the congress.
The Royal Family took their seats in the house of congress.
King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia were welcomed with great applause and seated with all the living ex-Prime Ministers of Spain.
The event began with the National Anthem.
Before the event, the Royal Family appeared on the balcony to receive the greetings of the members of the public.
Speaking at the event Felipe said, “the Constitution is the great national pact of coexistence among the Spanish for concord and reconciliation, for democracy and for freedom “and” is the first that materializes the will to integrate without excluding; it is the first one that does not divide the Spaniards but unites them, which calls them together for a common and shared project; for the project of a different Spain, of a new Spain: of a new idea of Spain“.
For the historic day, Queen Letizia brought back her one of the best looks of the year giving a nod to national colour. She wore red Carolina Herrera dress that she premiered in September during a visit to Covadonga at the XVIII Centenary of Kingdom of Asturias and then again in October when she visited Rome.
The full-sleeved custom-made shift dress features round neckline with a keyhole opening at front, slightly puffed shoulders, a structured pencil silhouette with a pleated bodice with hidden zip closure at back and fitted waistline.
Letizia carried matching red suede Magrit custom-made suede Kares clutch with flap closure and wore her Prada Pointy-toe Nude leather pumps.
Queen Letizia wore diamond and ruby hanging ‘Saudi’ earrings that she borrowed from her Mother-in-Law Queen Sofia. We last saw the earrings in July 2017 during the State visit to the United Kingdom.
As Always Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia wore a matching dress. Both sisters were in Prince of Wales checked dresses and cover up with capes.
This look is my one of Letizia’s favourite looks of the year. She looks really elegant.
