King Felipe and Queen Letizia along with Princess of Asturias, Leonor, and Infanta Sofia received an audience from the Board of Trustees of the Spanish Committee of the United World Schools Foundation, sponsors of scholarships and students of the 2021-2023 class.
It was Leonor and Sofia’s first audience at the Royal Palace of Zarzuela. Leonor is set to study at the UWC Atlantic College in Wales and thus she is also a member of the 2021 – 2023 class. Spanish media has recently reported that the Heiress to the Spanish throne has met her batch mates at a student camp recently.
Currently, United World Colleges has 18 colleges on 4 continents; Most of them focus exclusively on the 16-19 age bracket: a period in which the energy and idealism of young people can be drawn towards empathy, responsibility and action for life.
United World Schools students are selected locally in 155 countries, through the unique system of United World Schools national committees. Selection is based on the merit and potential of the candidate. Following the philosophy of United World Schools, education must be independent of socio-economic ability, therefore 70% of students pursuing the IB Diploma receive full or partial financial aid depending on their needs.
For the day, Queen Letizia wore the white Intropia Embossed suit that she first wore during the Haiti cooperation visit in May 2018.
