Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia of Spain made their first official summer appearance in 2022. The Royal sisters are in Girona for the annual Princess of Girona Foundation Awards. Princess Leonor also holds the title of Princess of Girona and it’s her first official appearance at this award ceremony.
Princess Leonor is a student at UWC Atlantic Wales and is back in Spain for summer break.
Earlier we saw her for a private theatre visit with her family. But today is her first official engagement.
The Princess of Girona Foundation Awards, endowed with 20,000 euros and a sculpture designed exclusively by Juan Zamora (Arts and Letters Award 2017), recognizes the young people who want to make their personal and professional development while generating a positive impact on the society. Empathy, commitment, determination, hope, and courage are some of the qualities shared by the five 2022 awardees, values that align with what the Foundation promotes i.e. equal opportunities, sustainability, and social impact.
Leonor and Sofia’s first engagement in summer was a visit to the Dalí Theater Museum where they attended a work session prior to the 2022 Princess of Girona Awards ceremony at the Dalí Museum in Figueres, in which young participants explained the Foundation’s new projects. Upon arrival, Doña Leonor and Doña Sofía were received by the Minister of Education and Vocational Training and the Government delegate in Catalonia.
After greeting the Princess of Girona Foundation staff the work session began on the new programs of the Princess of Girona Foundation. Both Leonor and Sofia met with young participants. The event continued with the “Purpose Generation”, which opened the dialogue between Mohamed El Amrani, winner of the 2014 FPdGi Social Award, and Anna Ruiz and Elisabet Bujons, on the objectives and opportunities of the program.
Other discussed projects included the Educational Transformation program by Sandra Camós, internships in rural schools, the Teaching Generation program; the Network of Teachers for Development, the Ukraine project; and the presence at the UNESCO World Higher Education Conference (WHEC) in Barcelona.
Then the Princess of Asturias and Girona – Leonor and Infanta Sofia along with the young participants toured the museum.
Tomorrow, both sisters will join King Felipe and Queen Letizia for the annual Princess of Girona Foundation award at the Ágora Auditorium of the AGBAR Water Museum in Cornellà de Llobregat ( Barcelona). They will also carry out other ordinary activities of the Foundation on the occasion of the delivery of the FPdGi Awards like meeting with the winners from previous editions will be held at the Palacete Albéniz. The Palacete Albéniz will also host a Code.org workshop that will be attended by the Princess of Asturias and Girona and the Infanta Sofía.
As expected Leonor and Sofia received a very warm welcome in Girona.
Before leaving both sisters did a small walkabout and greeted the members of the public gathered outside the museum to see them.
