The Princess of Asturias, Leonor, visited the Spanish Red Cross headquarters in Madrid today. Princess Leonor arrived home last week from Wales for the winter break that will last until January 05th, 2023. This was her first winter official engagement and it could also be her last public outing of the year as next week family will retire for the private Christmas and New Year break.
The 17-years old Crown Princess has been actively undertaking solo and joint engagements during each of her school breaks. Out of all the younger royals from the European monarchies, Princess Leonor is one of the most active young royals. King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain are acutely aware of public interest in the Royal family and they have been successful in maintaining the right balance between their daughter’s public and private life.
This was Princess Leonor’s first official and public visit to the Spanish Red Cross headquarters. She was joined by the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations. Upon arrival, Leonor was welcomed by the President of the Spanish Red Cross.

Red Cross represents the largest humanitarian, civic and independent movement in the world. It has been collaborating with public and private entities for 158 years so that humanity and dignity reach all people anywhere and at all times and circumstances.
Princess Leonor joined a meeting with young volunteers and participants in Red Cross programs, to learn first-hand about the work they do in the institution throughout the territory. She was joined by the young people who came from Castilla-La Mancha, the Canary Islands, Andalusia, Community Valencian, Catalonia or Asturias.
In Spain, the Red Cross has more than 256,000 volunteers and more than 1,250 service points throughout the country, which serve almost 15 million people around the world every year. All this with the support of nearly 1.4 million members, companies and allies in all sectors of society. The Red Cross has launched the plan ‘Red Cross Reacts: a direct, immediate and close response to the crisis’ caused by the pandemic, climate change and the conflict in Ukraine to respond to the growing needs of the population in the context of a sustained increase the prices of basic goods and services.
During her time at the Spanish Red Cross headquarters, The Princess of Asturias toured the building where the Red Cross activities took place and she visited the Network Room and Operations Center, such as the ‘Te Escucha’ psychological care, the monitoring and care of social networks and digital channels, as well as the telephone care services it provides.
She learnt about the Red Cross Youth (CRJ) – the youth section of the Spanish Red Cross, made up of boys, girls and young people between the ages of 8 and 30. The youth section provides the youngsters with opportunities to learn more about critical issues and presents them with volunteer opportunities. The CRJ has more than 15000 volunteers who helped more than thousands of people in need every year.
At the end of the visit, The Princess of Asturias received from the president of the Spanish Red Cross a dedicated copy of the collection of poems “Los Principios Fundamentales” and a Red Cross volunteer vest.
Before leaving, Princess Leonor spoke with the attendees and guests.
Moving towards Princess Leonor’s Style – Leonor was looking smart and stunning in a professional outfit that has elements borrowed from her mother, Queen Letizia’s, wardrobe.
Princess Leonor was wearing a Carolina Herrera The Prince of Wales Check blazer that Queen Letizia debuted in May 2020.
Leonor paired the blazer with a red turtleneck and black trousers. Both pieces might be from Boss and worn by Queen Letizia in past.
The new element of the look was her black Unisa Abeno 21 Ns Black ballerinas. Thanks to letizia_de_princesa_a_reina for the id.
Leonore completed the look with a pair of gold hoops.
Last week, The Royal Palace released a beautiful Christmas portrait in which Leonor is posing with her younger sister Infanta Sofia in the gardens of the Royal Palace of Zarzuela.
