Princess Leonor of Spain is making the most of her summer break before she starts the 3 years Long Military training. This week she joined her parents, King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain, for a visit to the General Military Academy in Zaragoza which will be the first base of her military training starting this August. The day must have given Leonor a glimpse of her own future in 3 years.
Leonor joined King Felipe and Queen Letizia where the King presented the appointments to the new officers of the Army who have completed their training at the General Military Academy and in the respective specific Academies (Infantry, Artillery, Cavalry, Engineers, Transmissions and Civil Guard).
The Royals were received with formal military honours at the academy. Then King Felipe reviewed the troops and took the salute. Then a tribute was paid to the fallen soldiers who gave their life for the country. Academy Hymn, the First Article of the Cadet Decalogue was recited before the event was concluded with a parade.
Then King Felipe, Queen Letizia and Princess Leonor met with the new officers and authorities. The General Military Academy is the central base for military training. King Felipe VI finished his armed forces training there before going for Naval and Air Force training. The Princess of Asturias, Leonor will be following the same steps.
Leonor’s training starts in August and she will graduate from the Academy next year as a Dame-Cadet then she will head to Marín Naval Military Academy for a couple of months before a training journey aboard the teaching ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano. All the Naval cadets are required to go through this training journey. Princess Leonor will graduate from the Naval Academy as Midshipman. And in the final leg of the training, Leonor will be at San Javier General Air Academy from where she will graduate as Lieutenant Cadet during the academic year 2025-2026.
“I have just finished high school and I am about to start a new stage with a period of military training. I am happy because I know how much the Spanish value our armed forces… It is an important moment in my life and I feel very excited and determined to continue learning and giving my best effort.”
