King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain opened the ‘Picasso 1906 – The Great Transformation’ at the Queen Sofia National Art Museum in Madrid. The event commemorated the 50th anniversary of the death of Pablo Picasso. This was Queen Letizia’s first public appearance since last week’s Spain State visit to Denmark.
At the national Queen Sofia Museum, King Felipe and Queen Letizia were received by the acting Minister of Culture and Sport. The Exhibition is presenting Pablo Picasso’s work from contemporary aesthetic consciousness to his contribution to the modern art. Picasso’s production in 1906 has been understood as an epilogue of the pink period or as a prologue to The Ladies of Avignon.
From there, Queen Letizia headed to the National Prado Museum for a solo engagement. Letizia presented the El Mundo International Awards of Journalism. The award highlights the defence of freedom of expression and ethical commitment as a motto for journalists. 2023 marks the 21st edition of the awards.
Winners of this year’s awards are: Carlos Dada, in the category “Best journalistic work,” director of “El Faro” (El Salvador) and Ece Temelkuran, in the category “Freedom of the press.” The Winners were presented with the 20,000 euros and a commemorative sculpture by the artist Martín Chirino.
