King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain attended the annual Armed Forces Day in Oviedo. Joining the Royal couple were the military of the three armies and the Civil Guard. King Felipe and Queen Letizia arrived at the Hermanos Menéndez Pidal Avenue escorted by the Escort Real Squadron.
Felipe and Letizia received a military ceremonial welcome by the president of the Principality of Asturias and the Minister of Defence. Battalion of the Royal Guard and Royal Battery took the salute from the King and then Felipe reviewed the troops before heading to the pavilion for the rest of the event.
The event began with the hoisting of the national flags, flags of all forms of military forms and the representation of the National Anthem. A team from the Air Force Acrobatic Acrobatic Patrol (PAPEA) created the National flag in the air while the flag hoisting was being carried out.
The day marks the establishment and connection of the national forces and civilian guards in Spain. Dating back to 1978 an institutional event was established to pay tribute to the armies and the Navy and to promote knowledge and their integration into society.
