Queen Letizia of Spain was at the El Retiro Park to open the 83rd Edition of the Annual Madrid Book Fair. Letizia is an avid book lover and every year she visits the book fair and purchases books from the event. This is the same event, where few years back, a visitor asked her why does she stop colouring her hair and she replied ‘I would rather read books these days’.
This year’s motto is “Sport illuminates the Fair”. The event is being held from 31 May to 16 June this year. The exhibition space is distributed along the Paseo de Fernán Núñez (Paseo de Coches de El Retiro). This year the fair is composed of 358 booths. Of the total, 117 are occupied by bookstores, 59 of which are specialized, and 212 are for publishers.
Letizia toured almost a dozen and half stands and met with the book sellers, publishers and authors during her tour. In the center of the Paseo de Cars is maintained the Plaza de la Ciencia and the Universities, in which the editorial services of several universities, the Union of Spanish University Editorials (UNE) and that of the Higher Center for Scientific Research (CSIC) are installed. On the other hand, in the Plaza de los Gremios and the associations of editors will have the representatives of Andalusia, Asturias, Cantabria, Castile and León and Murcia.
