On Friday, Queen Letizia of Spain undertook the last public visit of the year 2020. She joined King Felipe for a visit to Plaza of the Sacred Hearts in Madrid, where the Royal couple paid tribute to the front line workers who gave their lives during a battle against COVID-19 that had remained the reason behind the worldwide pandemic.

The Monument was initiated by General Council of Official Medical Associations (CGCOM) and endorsed by all health professions (Dentists, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Speech therapy, Medicine, Opticians-Optometrists, Podiatry, and Veterinary medicine) and is located at The Plaza de los Sagrados Corazones. Designed by the Avenida de Concha Espina, the monument is built on the property of the Madrid City Council. The monument will carry the work of renowned artist Jaume Plensa, author, among many works, of the Head of Julia when a twelve-meter high white sculpture at the Plaza de Colón is finished.

Later on, King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain visited Rural Gerontological Center “Santa Catalina de Alejandría” for the elderly people. The centre serves as the residents of 14 towns in the Inter-municipal Association of the Southeast of the Community of Madrid affected by rural depopulation.

The gerontological centre was established with the aim of guaranteeing that the elderly in the region had their basic needs covered and that they could also have a certain quality of life without leaving their environment. It houses residents above the age of 65.
